Neanderthals in Catalonia
The Museum of Archaeology of Catalonia offers an exhibition to summarize the current knowledge about Neanderthals.
Organized by the University of Barcelona and the Museum of Archaeology of Catalonia (MAC), Neardenthals in Catalonia will be open until February 16, 2014 at the MAC (Paseo de Santa Madrona, 39-41, Montjuic Park, Barcelona). The exhibition accompanies visitors on a journey to the main sites, including opinions, anecdotes and interviews with leading researchers.
Neanderthals (Homo neanderthalensis or Homo sapiens neanderthalensis) are the result of a long evolution of human groups Eurasia migrants in Africa between 300,000 and 125,000 years.
Homo neanderthalensis possessed a symbolic developed world denoting an entirely human as we demonstrate the use of pigments cognition, intentional deposition of certain bodies or use of personal ornamentation. Recent studies indicate that his disappearance was the result of absorption of its population by the newcomers Homo sapiens, who were probably more numerous.
The MAC has complemented the graphics and audiovisual elements with material from their collections.
