‘Oceà’ in the Versus Theatre

The adaptation of the Alessandro Baricco novel ‘Oceano Mare’ can be seen up until the 29th of September

For reasons unknown, a handful of people meet in a kind of inn called Almayer in a mythical territory of indeterminate location beside the sea in a time-space continuum that is equally imprecise. A mysterious man arrives, coinciding with other enigmatic characters, among them the painter Plasson, professor Bartleboom and a young girl named Elisewin. With the sea as a common denominator, their stories intertwine in a dreamlike atmosphere.

This is the starting point for Oceano Mare (Ocean Sea), the second novel by Alessandro Baricco, which has been adapted for the theatre by the Retret Teatre Company. Ivan Padilla, who also plays a part in the play, is in charge of directing a montage that has shortened the title of the book to just Oceà. The Versus Theatre, beside the Plaça de las Glòries, is the scenario where the adaptation of the Italian author can be seen up until the 29th of September.

Baricco principally became famous on the strength of his 1996 novel, Seda.
