Suncine

The planet in your hands

The International Environmental Film Festival, Suncine, invites us to rethink our relationship with nature.

The covid-19 won’t stop the celebration of this year’s International Environmental Film Festival. In fact, the pandemic has strengthened the festival's raison d'être. That is why, in its 27th edition, Suncine returns with more strength than ever and does so through a renewed format that combines face-to-face and virtual participation. This is possible thanks to a new app that will allow you to enjoy the screenings for free, without downloading or registering and from anywhere. In addition to the app, this edition can also be followed on Barcelona TV, where a selection of short films will be broadcast for the first time. You will also be able to watch them in person at the Girona Cinemas, the French Institute and the Cubelles secondary office. Write it down: the appointment is from the 4th to the 12th of November.

The event is distributed by theme in different sections. In two of them, the works that enter the competition are presented: Official Suncine, a selection of feature films in competition that aspire to the Golden Sun (the highest award of the festival), and Suncine Miradas, where short films that deal with the current situation of the planet from multiple points of view are presented. Outside the competition, one of the highlights of the festival is Suncine Especial, a section that hosts exclusive world, European and national premieres. These screenings will be mainly on-site and will include presentations by its actors and actresses, as well as stories about its realization. Another section, Sunciñe, shows the current affairs and environmental issues through work carried out in Spain. As usual, the festival includes a section for children, families and school audiences in the Suncine Edu where the works presented are aimed at the environmental education of children and young people.

With these sections, the Suncine Festival continues to make progress towards its objectives of raising awareness and educating on environmental matters through audiovisuals as an instrument and entertainment as a strategy. At the same time, the festival promotes films committed to the environment and provides a meeting place for the industry, environmental activism and citizens involved in the culture of sustainability. This is why the festival also organizes the Suncine Pro section, where professionals and organizations from the audiovisual and environmental sectors can share knowledge and experiences, create synergies and undertake new projects in favour of the natural balance of the planet.

For the 27th consecutive year, Suncine, the oldest festival of its kind in the world, brings us several proposals to create awareness of the need to protect the environment, and it does so by adapting to the current pandemic situation and bringing the festival to our homes.
