“Sí, però no exactamente” (Yes, but not exactly) in the Almazen

“I was a foreigner almost as soon as I was born, though of course I didn’t realise it at the time”. With these words, Sandra Rossi explains the origin of the idea for her self-penned monologue, Sí, però no exactamente. The text began its journey many years ago, in 1909, when a Catalan anarchist decided to emigrate to Argentina. Under the direction of Jordi Girabal, the performance tells the story of a peculiar family, of the journey of desire, of her childhood in her native Buenos Aires and many more first-hand experiences.
 

Throughout the monologue, the Argentinian displays all her interpretative and communicative talents with humour, tenderness and sincerity and Rossi, who feels at home in two different worlds and two different languages, sings, dances and plays up to fifteen different characters, sharing moments from the scrapbook of her life in an exercise of affecting honesty.
 

Rossi, who had been telling stories since a very early age, found the theatre to be the ideal place to express her desire to share them. She spent years studying dance, physical poetry, neutral mask, oral narration, theatre and self-expression through movement. Sí, però no exactamente is her ninth work of oral narration and the third directed at adult audiences.
