The soundtrack of Barcelona

The cycle “Sons de Ciutat” enters its third season bringing to public spaces performances by talented young people who deliver great interpretations of the most diverse styles.

If the city has a soundtrack, it must be the music of all those who practice this art in the city. You'll find quite a few of them in public spaces in your district during the months of December and January, as the third season of the “Sons de Ciutat” cycle has just begun. Let the music surprise you or, even better, go and look for it.

If you check the cycle's website, you'll find details of the performances, with names from the Barcelona music scene such as Marina BBFace & the Beatroots, Sara Aldana, Júlia Blum, the Alba Careta Group, The Crab Apples and even an ambient project like Nara is Neus. Núria Garcia and her electronic violin and classical music groups such as the Aesis Quintet and the Enxebre Duo are also part of a programme full of interesting names who play a variety of styles ranging from indie pop to singer-songwriters and from electronic music to jazz, Americana, reggae and, of course, classical and contemporary music.

All the artists will perform their repertoires on the street. In some cases, they will play Christmas tunes to coincide with the dates and on other occasions they will perform on Passeig de Gràcia to contribute to the two-hundredth anniversary celebrations.

The performances are spread all over the city and it will be difficult if you leave home and walk around a bit not to end up finding any of them. There are - at specific dates and times- on Rambla del Poblenou, Carrer de Benavent, Passeig de Gràcia with Casp and also Mallorca, at Barceloneta Market and in a bunch of Barcelona's squares ranging from Eivissa to Gal·la Placídia and from Joaquim Folguera to Plaça del Congrés, amongst many other public spaces that will be filled with music these days.

If you go out for a stroll these days, let yourself be surprised by a concert in the street. Check out the “Sons de Ciutat” programme on the website and don't miss the performances of your favourite genres and artists.
