The Sun of Roquetes

A special summer operation launched by the neighbourhood entities enlivens the area.

Summer is making its presence felt in the Roquetes neighbourhood. Shops are closing, everyone is starting their holidays and there is little movement. However, the streets and squares are very lively and leisure and cultural activities do not stop in the neighbourhood thanks to a project that the residents have kept alive for quite a few years: it is the Operation Solete.

Who organises it? Well, it's an initiative that started a few years ago within the framework of the Roquetes Community Plan, a network made up of neighbours, entities and associations with the collaboration of some services and public administrations. It aims to improve the quality of life of those who live in the neighbourhood. This year's activities are organised by entities such as the Centre Ton i Guida, the Roquetes Neighbours' Association, the Roquetes Traders' Association, the Les Roquetes Library or the Roquetes Puppeteer Association, among other organisations and entities that have the support of the Nou Barris District

Theatre, night walks, blues concerts... All these activities have flooded July in the neighbourhood thanks to this Operation Sunbeam, which enters the month of August with a programme that includes many musical activities to make the heat forgettable for the local residents in places such as Roquetes Square, Salvador Puig Antich square or the Roquetes Amphitheatre.

Thus, in addition to petanque competitions and bingo games, in Roquetes they organise a talent contest for emerging talents on the 12th of August. What can you do? Start preparing because the neighbours want to discover a new aspect of your personality, whether as a singer, performing magic or offering a short performance.

On Saturday the 19th, a cultural outing with women (registrations at Nou Barrios Conviv) is organised and on Thursday the 24th, the session of bingo... becomes musical. Indeed, in the neighbourhood, you can enjoy a bingo where knowing the songs that are played is the most important thing.

Finally, on the 26th of August, you will have the competition I Sing What Comes My Way, which will once again test the voices and talent of the neighbourhood residents and, on Thursday, the 31st of August, a grand final party to bid farewell to the summer.

If you want to fully experience the Operation Solete 2023, come and visit the Roquetes neighbourhood, but first check out this link for information about this summer cycle.
