The Tàpies Foundation offers an approach to the private collection of Antoni Tàpies

“Tàpies. Col·lecció d’artista” includes works of modern Western art, from firms such as Paul Klee, Joan Miró and Max Ernst among others, along with works by the artist himself, and can be seen in the center until January 10

The collection, which the artist started in 1940, but achieved true splendor in the early 60s, has a heterogeneous view, and includes works of Western art and art forms of Africa, Asia and Oceania, and samples of folk, art from mentally ill, films, photographs and books bibliophile. Therefore, we speak of a gallery that covers a broad historical period, from the antiquities of Egypt and Mesopotamia to the twentieth century Western art, from the early avant-garde to German neo-expressionism.

Between 2014 and 2015, the heirs of Antonio Tàpies (1923-2012) gave on deposit to the Foundation a collection of 230 works that are part of that collection. Largely, this assignment is composed of works of the same Tàpies, and includes a selection of 31 works by artists of the twentieth century such as Paul KleeJoan MiróKurt SchwittersVassili KandinskyMax ErnstMarcel DuchampFranz KlineJackson PollockJean DubuffetWillem de KooningSam Francis and Robert Motherwell, among others. This deposit goes to enrich the collection of the Foundation, made up of nearly 400 original works by Antoni Tàpies paintings, sculptures, objects and drawings from all periods of his artistic production, and more than 1,500 prints and bibliophile books, given by Teresa and Antoni Tàpies to the Foundation.

The exhibition Tàpies. Col·lecció d'artista parts only of that deposit, offering a look at a dozen works of modern Western art and forty works of Tàpies.

In addition, the exhibition is accompanied by the screening of the documentary Antoni Tàpies, held in 1981 by Maria Lluïsa Borràs, with music by Josep Mestres Quadreny, and offers the public a guided tour of the exhibition, an hour and 15 minutes long, with a price of 5.50 € (youth under 16 and Friends of the Antoni Tapies Foundation, free ) on Saturdays 17 October, 14 November, 12 December 2015, and Saturday January 9, 2016, at 17:00. Places for these visits are limited, so we recommend making reservation (932 075 862 / reserves@ftapies.com).
