Exhibition ‘Essa Efa. More than a century of science fiction in Catalan’
Catalan literature is rich in works that belong to the fantasy genre. From Llull to Sisa, many writers have approached reality through a non-mimetic lens, despite the common perception to the contrary. The exhibition ‘Essa Efa. More than a century of science fiction in Catalan', curated by Joaquim Noguero, takes as its starting point the tribute once paid to the genre by the Ofèlia Dracs collective. With a touch of pop culture, it revisits some of the themes explored in Catalan literature through this lens, with a particular focus on women authors. Each themed section features notable classics, a highlighted woman writer, a summary of the historical context and a short recorded video interview. The five themes explored are science in fiction, humans and technology, space travel, political speculation and the figure of the wise person. Classic authors such as Rosa Fabregat, Frederic Pujulà, Antoni Munné-Jordà, Pere Calders, Manuel de Pedrolo and Josep Maria Folch i Torres are presented alongside contemporary voices such as Carme Torras, Montserrat Galícia, Roser Cabré-Verdiell and Marina Espasa.
