Tu em vas prometre una història d’amor
Helena Tornero
Sala Beckett Sala de baix
From June 26 to July 27Tu em vas prometre una història d’amor is a boy-meets-girl story. Or a boy-meets-boy story. Or a girl-meets-girl story. Or the story of two strangers. It’s a story that begins in Rome. And a story that begins in Paris. And a story that begins in Poland, on top of a train. Well, actually, it’s the story of an author trying to write a love story. What is it with love stories? Why do they fascinate some, even to the point of addiction, and repulse others? What have they taught us about love? Why do stories that once seemed romantic now seem like horror stories? Can a contemporary love story be written, and can one survive the attempt?
These are questions Helena Tornero, an author from Figueres, asks herself. Tornero, an author, director, and translator, is a resident author at Sala Beckett for the 2024-25 season, and premiered her recent Dona i aspirador(a) [Woman and Hoover], winner of the Carme Montoriol grant, at this venue last year. In recent years, we have seen her working on productions such as I sing a song about bananas (Grec 2020) and Paradise Lost (Grec 2022), a performance directed by Andrés Lima based on John Milton's poem. Tornero is now teaming up with Israel Solà, a physicist, director, and playwright who founded La Calòrica, a company with which he has carried out many of his shows.
Produced by the Sala Beckett and the 2025 Barcelona Grec Festival
During the performance on July 8, there will be surtitles in English.
