Habitatge Metròpolis Barcelona has now formalised the capital increase needed to embark on the construction project for 4,500 flats in the Barcelona metropolitan area, half of which will be built in the city.

The construction project will have four stages, the first of which will build 640 homes in Barcelona, Sant Boi de Llobregat, Montgat and Sant Adrià de Besòs. These homes should house around 1,600 people and generate around a thousand jobs. In this first stage, Barcelona will build homes in the following locations:

  • La Marina del Prat Vermell, on two sites, with a capacity for 125 homes.
  • La Sagrera, on a site with a capacity for 106 homes.
  • Casernes de Sant Andreu, on a site with a capacity for 112 homes.

All the homes will have protected rents at below-market prices, with the land always to remain publicly owned. In terms of construction, the operator must guarantee environmental quality and sustainability with criteria on energy savings, and foster accessibility and the architectural quality of the buildings.
