Gold Medal for Cultural Merit to the magazine ‘L’Avenç’

In 1976, a group of historians published the first issue of a publication which right from the outset would become a point of reference for social, history and academic spheres. Having just published issue number 500, the last to be printed as a hard copy, ‘L’Avenç’ receives recognition from the city for its leading role in the development of Barcelona’s cultural and academic fabric over the course of nearly fifty years.

Over the course of 46 years, L’Avenç has included articles by the likes of Josep Fontana, Ferran Mascarell, Carmen Isasa, Antoni Castel, Núria Santamaria, Jordi Puntí and many others. The pages of the magazine offer readers a critical look at cultural activity, a chance to broaden their knowledge of history, literature and art, discover important people through hundreds of interviews and get a better understanding of Barcelona and Catalonia in the last quarter of the 20th century and first quarter of the 21st century.

The publication also stands out for its role as a book publisher for various generations of historians and writers.
