Gold Medals for Civic Merit and Sporting Merit

The Full Council approved the posthumous awarding of the Gold Medal for Civic Merit to Pere Casaldàliga and Pare Manel, the Gold Medal for Sporting Merit to the Catalan Swimming Federation and an honorary Silver Medal for Merit to Guillem Moya Niubó.

The Full Council awarded the following medals:

    • Gold Medal for Civic Merit, posthumously, to Pere Casaldàliga Pla: for his continuous struggle to combat the abuse of power and exploitation, his firm commitment to social justice, equality and the dignity of indigenous peoples.
    • Gold Medal for Civic Merit, posthumously, to Manel Pousa i Engroñat, better known as Pare Manel: for his solidarity commitment and social activism in favour of vulnerable people, particularly children at risk and people deprived of their freedom.
    • Gold Medal for Sporting Merit to the Catalan Swimming Federation, for its work to promote sport and particularly swimming in all categories, its sporting achievements and its contribution to the promotion of the city.

The Full Council also voted unanimously to award an honorary Silver Medal for Merit to Guillem Moya Niubó, for his important role in the protection of rights, freedoms and citizen security.
