The city’s cyclable network reaches Passeig de la Zona Franca with a new bike lane

Sustainable mobility in the city gets a boost with two actions to improve the bike network and the bus network. A new 3.6 km bike lane in Passeig de la Zona Franca will connect the neighbourhoods of La Marina with the city’s cycling network, while in Av. Diagonal the bus lane is to be widened to improve the efficiency of the service.

Work on both projects starts on 9 November.

The cycling network grows

The new bike lane will cover the section between Plaça d’Ildefons Cerdà and Carrer dels Motors. It will consist of two one-way lanes, right next to the pavement and separated from the traffic by a strip for services.

The action involves reorganising the spatial distribution of the road surface, with a central reservation with plants and, in each direction:

  • A traffic lane.
  • A bus lane.
  • A service lane: loading/unloading, bus stops and parking spaces.
  • A bike lane.
  • The pavement.

Work should conclude in January 2021.

A more efficient bus service in Av. Diagonal

The improvement to the bus lane in Av. Diagonal will facilitate the circulation of buses and the efficiency of the service by widening lanes to between 2.7 and 3.1 metres between Plaça de Francesc Macià and Carrer de Roger de Llúria.

The project includes the elimination of a traffic lane in the direction of the Besòs and should be completed on 8 December.

Boost for sustainable mobility

The new action comes in addition to other projects to foster sustainable mobility in recent months:
