The festival makes a commitment to productions by local companies, the goal being to recover Barcelona’s cultural life.

All the production and co-production commitments already made remain firm, with new ones being added to provide support for the cultural network not just in Barcelona but in the rest of the country.

The Barcelona Grec Festival starts on 30 June and will go on until the summer of 2021. The programme offers 108 shows, a large number of them at the iconic amphitheatre in Montjuïc. Safety measures stipulated by the health authorities will be applied at all times and venues will only use a third of their capacity.

Three main sections for the Grec 2020

• Grec Festival. 48 shows at 13 city venues in July. Shows will mostly be in city theatres and museums, and venues on Montjuïc mountain in particular.
• Open Grec. Starts in July and will keep running, with 36 activities designed for digital formats. Includes a chance to discover the reality of the stage in Latin America, this year’s online destination.
• From Grec to Grec. Starts in September and keeps the spirit of the Grec alive in various theatres and festivals, with shows which have been postponed and will be reprogrammed during the 2020-2021 season.

Homage to workers in the front line during the Covid-19 crisis

The curtain goes up on the Grec on 30 June, with a show by Baró d’evel with healthcare staff and workers from emergency services and other essential services who have been on the front line at the toughest moments of the Covid-19 pandemic. A show which reflects more than anything on what we’ve been through and how people make it possible to be proud of the human condition in uncertain times.

A more inclusive Grec

The 44th edition of the festival keeps the same budget as previous editions (3.3 million euros) and drops admission prices to 15 euros, with a reduced price of 5 euros for family shows.

The festival will go on until the summer of 2021 to offer as many shows as possible, including over fifty co-productions, and re-schedule fifteen concerts and shows suspended in the last few months because of the Covid-19 health crisis.
