The return of Llum BCN lights up the nights in Poblenou

It’s that time of the year when the streets of Poblenou get lit up and transformed into a big open-air museum. The eleventh edition of Llum BCN is on from 4 to 6 February, offering dozens of artistic projects and backing local creativity.

The Llum BCN festival is on a par with other big global events in light art, such as those in Eindhoven, Prague and Lyon, with works that end up shaping trends in the world of art, design, artistic lighting and citizen participation.

International artists who are currently in the limelight will be taking part in the festival, with the likes of Trevor Paglen, Ulf Langheinrich and Tundra sharing experiences and ideas with top creators from the national scene, including this year’s guest artist Antoni Miralda, along with cabosanroque, Toni Arola, Mariona Benedito + Cube bz. and Jordi Canudas.

In addition, students from 16 schools of art, design and lighting in the city will be taking part in Llum BCN with a joint display in the Parc del Centre del Poblenou

A poetic parade and a less ephemeral work

This year’s Llum BCN arrives with two new features. The streets of Poblenou are hosting a poetic parade of light and colour on Friday, 4 February, headed by the cement mixer designed by Antoni Miralda. On Saturday and Sunday, this installation will be on display on the site in C/ Pere IV, on the corner of C/ Ciutat de Granada. Elsewhere, the work Data Heartbreak uses light to explore infoxication, apathy and the importance of data. The installation can be visited throughout February in Room A at the Disseny Hub Barcelona (DHUB).
