Physicist, environmental activist and ecofeminist thinker

Doctor of Physical Sciences, Vandana Shiva (Dehradun, India, 1952). She is one of the founders of the gender unit at the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and the Women’s Environment & Development Organization (WEDO). She chairs the International Commission on the Future of Food and Agriculture (Tuscany, Italy) and is a member of the World Future Council and the board of the International Forum on Globalization.

Vandana is the author of books such as Making Peace with the EarthEarth DemocracySoil Not OilStaying AliveStolen HarvestWater Wars and Globalization’s New Wars. She has received more than twenty international awards, including the Right Livelihood Award, considered the Alternative Nobel Prize (1993), the LennonOno Grant for Peace (2008), the Sydney Peace Prize (2010) and the Calgary Peace Prize (2011).
