Precontent

In 2018, the Government of Catalonia approved the agreement delegating to the City Council the powers for the direct management of the Olympic Port by the municipal administration. The Olympic Port Strategic Master Plan sets out the policies and strategies for the development of the port’s infrastructures and port services and for the transformation of the port into a true civic space dedicated to the sea that recovers its use by the public and is integrated into the city, leaving behind the current model of uses in which night-time leisure and tourism play such an important role. The Plan is committed to promoting nautical activities, sport and scientific dissemination.

The planned actions at the Olympic Port include substantial improvements in terms of integrating the port with the city: better accessibility, connectivity and spatial planning.

  • The Moll de la Marina is to become a large pedestrian area. The ramps leading to the port and the exit ramp from the current car park will be removed in order to improve all the space in the pedestrian area.
  • The connectivity of the Vila Olímpica hub (Moll de Gregal) with the Olympic Port park will be strengthened in order to generate better permeability between the neighbourhood and the port.
  • Access to the Municipal Sailing Centre will be given continuity and improved with a new promenade in the form of a boulevard that will lead to the breakwater.
  • A new connection will be established between Avinguda del Litoral and the lower level of the port, which will replace the vehicle ramp at the Moll de la Marina, and a new connection to the quay will be planned between the promenade at beach level and the northern end of the port.
  • Sports activities linked to the sea will be consolidated, extending the Municipal Sailing Centre and creating a new Municipal Water Sports Centre at the Moll de la Marina.
  • The current night-time leisure uses at the Moll de Mestral will be replaced by nautical ones in order to promote the blue economy. Lastly, the restaurant at the Moll de Gregal will be maintained, with a commitment to local Mediterranean cuisine linked to the sea.
