Planning of public spaces at Nova Bocana

Management and improvement of public space

District of Ciutat Vella

Precontent

A new marina for small and medium-sized yachts was built at the northern entrance to the Port of Barcelona. As a result of the agreements between the APB (Barcelona Port Authority) and the City Council for the approval of the third specific modification of the Nova Bocana Special Plan, this marina will be integrated into the city by means of a system of different public spaces, squares and walkways located at different locations and at different levels.

The new marina has increased the city’s public space by 14,000 m². The extension of the surface area destined for public use is concentrated basically in the surrounding area, where two stretches of public walkway have been created, the Passeig del Dic (to the east) and the Rambla de la Nova Bocana (to the west).

The Passeig del Dic aims to recover the historic Passeig del Trencaones and the direct relationship between the La Barceloneta neighbourhood (and, by extension, the city as a whole) and the sea, the port, Montjuïc and the coastal landscape, as it is the continuation of the Passeig Marítim and Plaça de la Rosa dels Vents.  The Rambla de la Nova Bocana is the continuation to the south of the Passeig de Joan de Borbó. The height of the new elevated boulevard is above the level of the quays and, therefore, offers open views of the port and the city. Finally, the current Plaça de la Rosa dels Vents has doubled in size with the creation of a new esplanade under which the dry marina is located.
