    The Ateneu is part of the Plaça de Sóller complex. Built in 1983, it was one of the first iconic public space works in the democratic-era Barcelona of the 1980s. The Ateneu La Bòbila community space, facing away from the park, was located on the edges of the square on the semi-basement floor of the building enclosing the space.

    The demolition of much of the surrounding building, the 100% wood-based expansion of the existing space in direct contact with the park, and the use of vegetation along the edges and the solar screens seek to transform the bordering building in a pavilion of sorts within the park.
