The Casa de la Barceloneta 1761 is a municipal site that seeks to rediscover the Barceloneta neighbourhood’s historic and collective memory (the workers’ movement, anti-fascism, the struggle for gender equality, pro-democracy protests and neighbourhood movements) while also celebrating its heritage, from grassroots culture to architecture and art. The building, unlike almost all the houses in La Barceloneta, maintained its original proportions throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, despite interior transformations. It’s the last remaining original building with a three-street façade. Restoring it is a way to showcase and highlight original 18th-century architectural heritage in La Barceloneta.
