Guided tour to showcase the architecture and public art of La Barceloneta, accompanied by the release of a map-guide
The municipal cultural centre Casa de la Barceloneta 1761, dedicated to preserving historical memory, has joined forces with the architects’ cooperative El Globus Vermell to offer a guided tour showcasing the architecture and public art of La Barceloneta. The route will feature works covering the period from the 18th century to the present day, with the goal of revealing the neighbourhood’s history through its tangible heritage.
La Barceloneta boasts a rich variety of buildings and artworks which, when contextualised, help us understand how the neighbourhood has evolved from an urban, economic and social perspective. Participants will be given a newly released map-guide on local history, art and architecture, which will also be available free of charge at Casa de la Barceloneta 1761.The tour will begin at the Casa de la Barceloneta 1761 building, which, unlike almost all the other houses in the neighbourhood, has retained its original dimensions over the centuries despite interior transformations. This is the last remaining example of an original building with façades on three streets. Its restoration means that the original 18th-century architectural heritage of La Barceloneta can be shared and appreciated.
