Three walks focused on the integration of places of death into Barcelona’s urban life
This activity proposes three reflections on death, focusing on its perceptions, rituals and spaces. It takes the form of three Sunday walks through the city of Barcelona, on which death will become an experience connected to life and the city. Let’s step out and delve into Barcelona’s funerary customs and culture.
The first walk takes us through Ciutat Vella, where we’ll explore the legacy of the Roman necropolis and the medieval sagrera (sacred area surrounding a church), unravelling concepts such as memory, remembrance, the individual tomb and the collective monument.
On the walks, participants are provided with a fanzine that offers visual, theoretical and contextual documentation to further explore the theme. Living with Death is also a way to experience its spaces and reconnect them with everyday urban life.
