Guided tour of Barcelona’s La Ribera district

Among the many construction materials that have been used throughout the history of architecture, stone has always been imbued with a great sense of nobility, thanks both to its resilience and the aesthetic quality it has brought to buildings. Stonemasons applied all their skills and artisanry to the ashlar and slabs extracted from the quarries on Montjuïc Hill to make the city more beautiful.

Through observing balconies, doors, windows, façades, guard stones, sgraffito work, kerbing and many other unique elements that form part of the urban landscape, we will trace the lives, tastes, stories and customs of the residents of Barcelona’s La Ribera district.
