    The building was designed by Álvaro Siza Vieira in collaboration with Catalan architect Joan Falgueras Font and Torroja Ingeniería. The structure, with a courtyard in the centre measuring 9 metres in diameter, is a cylinder with eight deep radial openings that create light wells onto which the rooms open. These courtyards are tangent to the inner ring, which looks out on eight completely different images, as in a kaleidoscope or a compass.
