The Teatre Lliure de Montjuïc is located in the renovated Palau de l’Agricultura, a noucentista-style building created for the 1929 International Exposition. Originally designed as a complex with a central courtyard, it is known for its use of terracotta and the contributions of artists such as Frederic Marès and Darius Vilàs. Following the Civil War, the building was partially demolished and used as a central flower market until 1970.

Its transformation into the current Teatre Lliure, completed in 2001, was led by the architect Manuel Núñez Yanowsky, following the artistic vision of Fabià Puigserver. The renovation incorporated advanced technical criteria and approaches to stage design, adapted the spaces to the demands of contemporary performing arts and placed the building’s history in conversation with modern theatre needs.
