Barcelona will host the II Forum of European University Alliances
430 universities from 35 countries will take part in the II Forum of European University Alliances, an event that this year will be held at the Fabra i Coats: Creation Factory in Barcelona on 14 and 15 September. The main objective of the event is to provide a space for dialogue and coexistence of opinions to address the most important issues affecting European alliances today.
The Forum aims to establish long-term strategic alliances between European universities and to promote European identity and values, as well as excellence and transformation. Thus, since the birth of the European University Initiative, it has proposed partnerships that seek innovation and aspire to go beyond conventional boundaries. The programme includes thematic sessions and plenary sessions which will reflect on topics as diverse as “the social dimension of European universities: obstacle or driver of integration” or the “Financial sustainability and coherence of the European University Initiative with the policies of the EU and the member states”, among many others.
The opening session will be addressed by Jaume Collboni, Mayor of Barcelona, Joaquim Nadal, Minister for Research and Universities of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Joan Subirats, Minister for Universities, and Margaritis Schinas, Vice-President for the Promotion of the European Lifestyle of the European Commission.
The Forum will be attended by many other experts in the field and university policies, such as Sophia Eriksson, Director of Youth, Education and Erasmus+ of the European Commission; Félix García-Lausín, Coordinator of the Ibero-American Knowledge Space, or Joana Gouveia Loureiro, Head of the Office of Institutional and International Affairs of the City Council of Coimbra (Portugal).
