The observations from the CCCB about the meaning of culture and the challenges of the museums

The Centre has created a playlist with acts it has organised and in which there have been participants like Marina Garcés, Vicenç Altaió, Frederic Amat, Fito Conesa or Orhan Pamuk, amongst others.

There are those who say that this pandemic we are going through is going to change many things we had taken for granted, including in the cultural area. But spaces like the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) have organised courses and debates reflecting about the future for years; for example, the challenges that museums and cultural centres face. This is demonstrated by the playlist created by the CCCB, titled Opening Museums, in which different events that have taken place in the Centre have been gathered. These events have in common that they have been created to ponder about the meaning of culture, and, in the case of the museums, to move towards a future in which they turn into more open and more accessible places. The list holds different recorded debates and technical presentations as well as some articles.

In the list, the user will, for example, find a dialogue under the title “Per a què serveix una exposició?” with the curator and culture investigator José Luis de Vicente, and the professor, writer and curator Lluís Nacenta. You can also find a conference by the literature-Nobel-price-winner, the turk writer Orhan Pamuk, in which he reflects about the future of museums and literature.  In another video, Mark Miller, coordinator of programmes for the younger audiences from the Tate in London, and Fito Conesa, artist and, up until 2017, director of the space programmed for youths “Habitació 1418”, talk about their experience as activators of young audiences. You can also find the debate titled “Per a què serveix la cultura?”,  with the artist Frederic Amat, the philosopher and writer Marina Garcés, or the Italian-literature professor Nuccio Ordine, amongst others.
