An actor disguissed as Mr. Scrooge

A Christmas classic, explained with music and sand drawings

Charles Dickens' Christmas Carol comes to the Gran Teatre del Liceu, aimed at family audiences.

Do you know who Mr. Scrooge is? If the name tickles your memory, perhaps you have been told the story of this rich and miserable man who, on Christmas Eve, meets a ghost with whom he settles the accounts of his own life. On December 16 and 17, at the Liceu, the story will be retold as a Christmas classic in a different way, with music... and sand.

The story, first published in 1843 in the original English version, is well known: Ebenezer Scrooge, a rich and lonely man who does not like Christmas at all, who unscrupulously exploits his workers and who loves nothing and nobody unless he makes his fortune grow, is visited during the night by the ghost of a former partner, Jacob, now deceased, who warns him about the excessive dedication to work and the little attention that the stinger pays to people. The ghost announces to Scrooge that three more ghosts will come to see him that night: the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future.

What these three ghosts will show him will forever change him from an old money grobber a sweet and generous old man who breathes kindness and has finally integrated the spirit of Christmas into his existence.

So much for the original story, but this time it will be told in a different way. David Pintó, responsible for the adaptation of the text and stage coordination, and Albert Guinovart, responsible for the musical composition and piano performance, are the authors of this version, directed by Josep Vila Jover.

They will perform for you with the music of the Orchestra from Gran Teatre del Liceu, the solo performance of the soprano Ana San Martín and the participation of the actor and singer Albert Mora.

They, with the participation of musicians from the Liceu’s Conservatory and the voices of the boys and girls of the Amics de la Unió Children Choir, will narrate this story, in which the artists will be combined with the projections of the drawings on the sand made by Borja González (from Ytuquepintas Show Company, which you may have seen more than once). He, with an almost magical ability, will create images thanks to which you will follow the story.

If you don't want to miss a Christmas classic explained in a different way, come and see Charles Dickens' Christmas Carol, but first check the Gran Teatre del Liceu website for all the information about the performances.
