The conceptual art of Rafel Tous at MACBA

The Catalan conceptual art that prevailed in the seventies, eighties and nineties is the protagonist of this exhibition that will last until January 9th, 2022.

Under the title In Real Time. Rafael Tous Collection of Conceptual Art, MACBA Museum is hosting an exhibition that is a journey through the most experimental art that took place during the seventies and eighties in Catalonia; driven by a generation of artists who escaped conventional circuits of art and met in alternative cultural spaces.

The interaction with nature, new consumerism, art as a form of action and demand, social and political criticism, the use of the word or the incorporation of objects are some of the key elements of this exhibition that can be seen from May 14th to January 9th, 2022. Created from the private collection of Rafael Tous, the founder of the Metrònom room, he promoted the creation of installations and proposals in which music and performance merged. Approximately a year ago, he donated his private compendium consisting of more than a thousand pieces to MACBA.

The Catalan businessman, associated with the textile sector, made a commitment to conceptual art. So, throughout his life, he collected artworks by a group of artists who prioritized the idea and the process over the object. Tous became friends with some of them and helped them boost their artistic careers. Tous's support for these artistic practices was vital for the development of conceptual art.
