Poster of the opera La gata perduda

The Liceu and Raval associations are premiering a community opera

There will be two performances of La gata perduda, an opera musically conceived by Arnau Tordera and with dramaturgy by Victoria Szpunberg.

La gata perduda has been three years in the making, and on 5 and 7 October, you will be able to see the results at the Gran Teatre del Liceu. The initiative is part of the European project TRACTION, Opera co-creation for social transformation, which aims to bring opera closer to different communities through technological innovation. In the case of La gata perduda, organisers want to give a voice to diversity and become a path for people integration and development.

It is a community and participative opera co-created by the associative movement of the Raval neighbourhood and the Liceu. It tells the story of the struggle of a neighbourhood that refuses to resign itself to being manipulated, that is united and rebels against the powers that be. The Raval is a character in its own right within the opera and is performed by the choral mass of the neighbourhood's amateur choirs. In La gata perduda, different characters want to speculate and use the Raval for their own interests. The libretto is based on the neighbours' anecdotes, experiences, stories, dreams and concerns.

The opera was musically conceived by Arnau Tordera, guitarist, vocalist and leader of the band Obeses, and with text by Victoria Szpunberg. You will enjoy from lyrical moments to musical ones all the way to world music. The stage direction is by Ricard Soler Mallol, and the musical direction is by Alfons Reverté, who conducts the Orquestra del Conservatori del Liceu and instrumentalists from the Taller de Músics. The cast includes Pau ArmengolJoan SáezRocío MartínezMarta InfanteAlbert CasalsÓscar Peñarroya and Dianne Ico.
