In Museu 2023 goes into the soul of thirteen museus

Participants will be able to enter spaces usually closed to the public and learn about the work of restoration, conservation and archiving.

On Saturday 4 March a new edition of In Museu, will take place, a day on which the city's museums open the doors of their entrances to spaces usually reserved for staff. This allows participants to get to know the reserves of these facilities, as well as the work of professionals dedicated to the restoration, conservation and archiving of works of art. It is these professionals who guide the visits. The motto of the activity is "Discover the soul of museums".

Thirteen museums are taking part in this year's 2023 edition: Montjuïc Castle, El Born Centro de Cultura y Memoria, Joan Miró Foundation, MACBA, MUHBA Padellàs – House of the History of Barcelona, Barcelona Museum of Natural Sciences - Nature Laboratory, Music Museum, Barcelona Design Hub, Museum of Ethnology and World Cultures - Montjuïc Park Site, Frederic Marès Museum, Barcelona Maritime Museum, National Art Museum of Catalonia and Royal Monastery of Santa Maria de Pedralbes.

A total of 2,250 places are offered in 112 sessions. Each space has different visiting hours, and in many cases also different types of visits. For example, at the MACBA there will be three possible visits: to the collection's storage areas, the conservation and restoration workshops, and the archive and library of the Centre for Studies and Documentation; or at the Barcelona Maritime Museum you can choose between visiting the traditional shipyard, the conservation-restoration workshop, the collection's storage areas, the archive of the historical collection and the general archive.

The MUHBA Padellàs, House of the History of Barcelona is reinventing itself this year and the In Museu will be offering a tasting of this new equipment as a preview. At the Frederic Marès Museum it will be possible to witness the restoration of a piece in situ. The Royal Monastery of Santa Maria de Pedralbes presents as a novelty to enter the chapterhouse with some works and the keystone with the 15th century Virgin of Mercy restored. The Museum of Natural Sciences of Barcelona - Nature Laboratory proposes a new type of visit that will allow visitors to discover the digital archive, and El Born CCM also presents novelties, with a view from the point of view of conservation and restoration and another on research.

All sessions are free, but advance registration is required as places are limited. Registration opens on 23 February through the website http://barcelona.cat/inmuseu, and, in order to ensure that as many people as possible have the chance to enjoy the experience, reservations can be made for a maximum of two people per activity, and a maximum of two activities per application.

In Museu is organised by Barcelona City Council's Institute of Culture. All the information in this link.
