The lungs of the planet
Three activities at the CCCB to reflect on climate change and the options for the future.
Climate change raises all kinds of questions. What is the future that awaits us? Will we be able to survive with all its consequences? How will we have to adapt to the changes that are coming? From 20 to 26 April, the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) is hosting three activities to reflect on climate and biodiversity, both current problems and the adaptations we should make as a species so as not to end up destroying the planet.
In view of the current situation, urgent measures must be taken. The latest report requested by the governments of the United Nations reaffirms that climate change is not stopping and that, in order to reduce risks to society and ecosystems, rapid and deep emission reductions are necessary. On 20 April at the CCCB's Sala Teatre, Anna Sörenson and Francisco Doblas, members of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the organisation that drafted this document, will debate the efforts to tackle the climate emergency. During the conversation The Future of Climate, they will analyse the findings of the Sixth Assessment Report, as well as the immediate challenges ahead and how to address them.
One of the planet's lifeboats is the vast tracts of forest. The forests of Amazonia, Congo and West Papua, the three largest in the world, are key to sustaining the biosphere. At The lives of the rainforest on 24 April, the expert voices of Jean Wyllys, Raki Ap and Shailini Vora will talk about the importance of these areas. In addition, to reaffirm this issue, on 26 April the documentary Pisar Suavemente na Terra, by Marcos Colón, will be screened, a story to discover the ancestral knowledge of the original peoples of the Amazon and its relevance for the future. During the screening you will understand the points of view of three indigenous leaders, their philosophy and the threats that the villages and the territory are facing due to the overexploitation of the area.
