Circus against gender violence

The company Som Noise is presenting 'Breach' at the Mercat de les Flors, a play about priests and sexual abuse.

From 20 May to 5 June, the Mercat de les Flors is hosting a new edition of the Circ d'Ara Mateix festival. The cycle takes a look at contemporary circus creation made up of a selection of small and medium-format pieces by creators who use their own committed language, with a message and technique that have evolved towards a vocabulary at the service of dramaturgy.

In this context, the company Som Noise will present Breach on 20, 21 and 22 May. Som Noise is an emerging company founded in 2017 by the Catalan creator Thaïs Julià and the Argentinian musician Mati Muñoz. Breach is their first project, which has involved the integration into the group of Vivian Friedrich as the playwright and artistic animator. Som Noise claims a political and experimental circus based on risk, narrative honesty, dramaturgical research and co-authorship.

Breach is a creation that works with the languages of smooth string, performance and live music, with live electronic percussion and sound spaces. The piece goes through all the dictionary meanings of the English word: "violation or infraction of a rule or law"; "rupture in a relationship"; "breach, fissure, gap", but it is also the "act of emerging to the surface".

Som Noise invites the audience to enter a space of ambiguity between pleasure and pain, eroticism, violence, submission and empowerment to establish a dialogue about the system of gender violence and explore why after sexual aggression, the victim usually feels shame and guilt.

The creation process has been nourished by the experiences of women and organisations related to the issue. And some of them wanted to leave their testimony on their website, like Ariadna, for whom the show "has been like an empathetic hug from a sister who understands your grief, and at the same time an open wound that kept bleeding in the form of tears. It has been a hard and therapeutic journey, but this time I did not feel alone".

Tickets to see Breach are 16 euros and can be purchased in advance at this link.
