Self-portrait of artist Jose Luis Corella.

A pictorial evolution linked to life

The MEAM presents the work of the artist Jose Luis Corella.

José Luis Corella is a multidisciplinary artist. He studied Fine Arts at the Faculty of San Carlos in Valencia, specializing in drawing and painting. He also studied restoration, engraving and sculpture (stone carving).

His works have been exhibited in museums and art fairs around the world, and now the MEAM, European Museum of Modern Art, which specializes in contemporary art, is dedicating a broad exhibition to him. Opening on January 12, it can be visited until April 16.

The author works from light to dark, keeping the colour as clean and vibrant as possible. Corella himself says he does not have a defined style; that he has never searched for it. What sets him apart are his themes. A pictorial evolution linked to his intense vital evolution. His growing interest in a wide variety of subjects, as he has matured in age and style, has impacted his perspective on his work, influenced by his family, friends and his environment. The author describes what excites him and what he is able to understand.

His works Metamorphosis, Imagini and Juanito won the BP Portrait Award competition in 2008, 2009 and 2015, respectively, in London.

The MEAM is a lively museum which in addition to exhibitions organizes concerts, theatre plays, painting and sculpture courses, as well as workshops for children and much more. This is why, apart from showcasing Corella's career through his most representative works, on the day of the opening of the exhibition, a performance by soprano Dominika Zamara and guitarist Hernán Navarro has been scheduled.

On the occasion of the exhibition, Corella will take part in a workshop from January 24 to 27 in which he will help participants to express their creativity in the way that best suits their style. Students will work on their own photographs and choose the topic that interests them the most.

Tickets for the exhibition can be purchased here.
