Radiography of the brain
An artistic, scientific and phylosophic exhibition to discover the secrets and curiosities of the most complex organ.
How does a brain work, where does consciousness or creativity come from, what happens to our heads when we get sick? In Brain(s), the new exhibition at the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona, you will explore some of these questions. In addition to understanding the complexity of brain anatomy, you will reflect on abstract aspects such as consciousness, language, imagination and dreams by combining works of art with interactive elements and scientific dissemination. You will have the chance to experience the activity from 27 July to 11 December.
The exhibition includes three hundred pieces, including immersive installations, audiovisual works, objects from historical collections and the results of scientific projects. Thanks to them, you will discover the enormous complexity of the brain (some say it is more difficult to study this organ than the whole universe!) through the observation of cognitive systems, from the natural ones to those created by human beings.
The exhibition includes the participation of artists such as Tomás Saraceno, Patrick Tresset, Ivana Franke and Daniel Alexander, among others, and historical material from personalities such as Santiago Ramón y Cajal, René Descartes and Ada Lovelace, as well as scientific projects from leading research institutes.
The Brain(s) project is commissioned by the physicist and biologist Ricard Solé and Emily Sargent, curator of the Wellcome Collection in London, and relies on a network of research professionals and a creative collective, both in the exhibition part and in the development of a programme of activities that includes a film series, public debates and mediation workshops. Take the opportunity to discover the secrets of the brain, the human object that generates the most enigmas, in one of the city's leading cultural centres. Enjoy Brain(s), art, scientific divulgation and philosophy at your fingertips.
