An exploration of the fascinating (and unknown) LGTBIQ+ history of Barcelona

Discover the secrets and the most shocking stories of the LGTBIQ+ community in Barcelona with this dramatised route.

June is LGTBIQ+ Pride month and there's no better way to commemorate it than with this dramatised route. Come to the Can Clariana Cultural Civic Centre on Thursday 15th and take part in this exciting and evocative tour that will allow you to relive the most important moments in the history of people who have lived a different sexuality in our city. Immerse yourself in a unique journey through time and explore the most significant moments of the struggle and celebration of sexual diversity in Barcelona.

Delve into the ambiguity and oppression of past eras, from ancient Greece to modern times, and discover how society has evolved in its understanding and acceptance of sexual and gender diversity. Through theatre, actors will bring to life iconic characters from each era, immersing you in the experiences and challenges they faced. They will unveil themes such as the atrocious Visigothic laws, male and female homosexuality in monasteries, royalty and the aristocratic elite, the persecution of Cathars, Templars and Sodomites, homoeroticism in Islamic and Sephardic communities, the excesses of the Inquisition, romanticism and dandyism, liberation during the Second Republic and the long agony of the post-war period up to the rights acquired during the transition and democracy.

This route will be animated by actors who will embody LGTBIQ+ personalities such as the writer Antonio Hoyos Vinent or the dancer Carmen Tórtola Valencia, who were present in the vibrant Barcelona of 1920. The guides for this route will be Felipe Trigo, historian and official guide of Catalonia, and Isabel Capdevila, art historian, from Emotion History. With their passion and knowledge, they will give you a complete and fascinating insight into Barcelona's LGTBIQ+ history.

This tour takes us through the city's most important historical events, but from a different perspective. Get ready to discover stories of bravery, resistance and success throughout the centuries, in a journey that will not leave you indifferent.

The duration of this experience is 120 minutes and it is essential to book in advance. You can do it from this link.
