Three Days of Art and Design That Heat Poblenou
Art galleries, showrooms, and museums are joining in a showcase that brings to light the creativity in this Barcelona neighbourhood.
Prominent venues like the KBr Photography Center or the Disseny Hub Barcelona, along with smaller galleries and art spaces like the Ket Galería, will be part of AR-DE on October 20, 21, and 22. It's the fifth edition of a grand exhibition that involves an entire neighbourhood and has art and design at its core.
Come and stroll through the streets of Poblenou. You'll undoubtedly come across one of the many spaces participating in the event, aiming to showcase the programs of a dozen creative and exhibition centres, including the mentioned ones and many others such as La Plataforma, Museo Can Framis, or Piramidón, a contemporary art centre.
Indeed, these spaces and many others will raise the artistic temperature of the neighbourhood, which is why the festival's image is a fire extinguisher, promising to keep under control the creative "fires" you'll find in Stanzas, an exhibition by Piramidón's resident artist Eduard Resbier. This exhibition explores the boundary between figuration and abstraction, reality, and fiction.
Stores dedicated to furniture and decor, such as Noak Room, with vintage Scandinavian design decorations, join major art centres like the Museo Can Framis, which hosts an open day on Saturday, October 21. Or the KBr, a significant space dedicated to photography where you can see, for one euro, exhibitions like "William Eggleston: The Mystery of the Everyday" about the father of color photography, and "KBr Flama’23," which brings together works from young photographers Alan Balzac, Ivette Blaya, Rocío Madrid, and Lucía Morón.
New exhibitions at the Disseny Hub Barcelona and spaces dedicated to contemporary jewellery like Artesi join unique galleries like Ket Galería (the smallest art gallery in all of Catalonia, they say). You'll find Francesc Fusté Saus's installation "Dona-li al cor," which represents a giant beating heart, an essential organ we barely notice. The installation speaks to how unaware we are of our bodies.
German artist Stefanie Herr presents her works from "Vértigo" at La Plataforma. On Saturday, you can also view a selection of furniture, design accessories, and decorative items by authors such as Jaime Hayon, Oscar Tusquets, or Alfredo Häberli, among others, for free at Bd Barcelona Design (Friday from 12 to 2 p.m. and from 5 to 8 pm, Saturday from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm).
If you want to see a sample of the newest contemporary creations made or exhibited in Poblenou, don't miss AR-DE. But before you go, check the website for all the details.
