Participants in the meeting included the Deputy Mayor for Security, Prevention and Coexistence, Albert Batlle, the head of the City Police, Intendent Major Pedro Velázquez, and the director of the Barcelona Fire Service, Sebastià Massagué, as well as other institutional officials and members of the police corps.

Summer is the time of year with the most intensive use of public space, and when the city has the most visitors. Because of this, Barcelona City Council has launched measures such as:

  • Up to 200 more City Police officers providing daily service, working to prevent anti-social behaviour and guarantee security.
  • Extra cleaning services with 99 teams and 234 workers to help keep public space clean. Litter bins will be emptied and intensive cleaning carried out at city beaches, parks and gardens and places when people gather or spend time.
  • The beach season will be extended to early October with more security, water cleaning, greater accessibility and an extensive communication operation with the public, all along the city coast
  • An operation will also be in place to prevent sexist violence with daytime and night-time purple points and the safe routes by the City Police to be bolstered.

For its part, the Barcelona Fire Service has presented a forest fire and heatwave risk map, as well as all the preventive tasks for woodland areas. Special emphasis is being placed on aspecst of Civil Protection, such as warnings to the community of visitors in cases of civil alerts.

The plan for the summer comes as part of the Pla Endreça Barcelona, which has the goal of maintaining the excellence of public space, working for compliance with regulations and fighting anti-social behaviour.
