‘Essa Efa’: Science fiction in Catalan literature
Catalan literature has a long science fiction tradition, though many of these works have been excluded from its canon or even forgotten. Today, though, the genre is in rude health, with plenty of books being published year after year. ‘Essa efa. Reading science fiction in Catalan’, an exhibition celebrating the history of Catalan science fiction, will kick off with this round table discussion in which the exhibition’s curator and various guests will pay tribute to the champions of the genre and help us to reflect on the implications of this major literary corpus and its influence on current generations. They will also look ahead to the future of this genre in Catalan. The exhibition curator, Joaquim Noguero, will be moderating a conversation with Antoni Munné-Jordà, one of the leading researchers and educators focusing on science fiction in Catalan; the prominent historian and literary critic Víctor Martínez-Gil; and Carme Torras, a fiction writer and expert in robotics and artificial intelligence.
