Would you like to become a spice? Come along, with your own shape and scent, and become part of the whole in this immersive and interactive dance experience. Art and technology come together to show you just how positive differences can be.

If you look up the word “Kruid” in a Dutch dictionary, you’ll find it refers to pepper, cardamom, oregano, basil… in other words, all the spices we add to our food, known for their different shapes, flavours, and aromas. Perhaps, thought Carles Castaño Oliveros and Sau-Ching Wong, spices could be a symbol of diversity and difference. This idea inspired the title of a performance that unfolds in a virtual space. To experience it, you’ll need to wear 3D glasses and immerse yourself in a mixed-reality show, an interactive and immersive dance performance that blends human bodies with 3D structures. These structures themselves are inert and do not tell a story, but narrative emerges through their interaction with the audience and a performer: dancer and choreographer Sau-Ching Wong. Differences, confrontation, construction, and destruction all play a key role in this groundbreaking performance, quite possibly the first immersive, interactive, mixed-reality contemporary dance piece you have ever seen.

The performance emerged from the 2024 Grec Festival’s Creation and Museums project, and the first show was seen at the Barcelona Picasso Museum. It was the result of collaboration between Carles Castaño and Sau-Ching Wong, creators from different artistic backgrounds and origins. You may have seen Wong with Marcos Morau’s dance company La Veronal. Castaño is the man behind Servicios Inmersivos, a production company, laboratory, and centre for artistic synergies that promotes the creation of immersive and participatory pieces exploring the possibilities of the virtual world. Together, they explore new artistic languages, searching for new meanings and purposes in the fusion of virtuality and the human body.

A production by Servicios Inmersivos.

In collaboration with the Teatre Tantarantana, the Picasso Museum, the 2024 Grec Festival, and the Barcelona Institute of Culture.
