Citizen security

In terms of security, and in conjunction with the Mossos, action will be taken on prevention and citizen security, mainly with regard to pick-pocketing, mugging, bag-snatching and activities which, when committed repeatedly, can cause social alarm regardless of their severity.

Measures will also be taken in conjunction with the Mossos as part of the action plan against repeat offenders in the city. The goal is to detect and prevent crimes committed repeatedly by the same people and to detain them. Patrols combine plain-clothes and uniformed officers and will be carried out in places with the highest volumes of people and nightlife. The City Police will be paying particular attention to shopping hubs and areas around municipal markets.

Intensive use of public space

The city’s police corps will be controlling the intensive use of public space and prioritising action in cases where coexistence may be disrupted or public space degraded, such as drug or alcohol consumption.

The reduction of noise pollution will be another focus of attention: noise generated by establishments and their customers, as well as noise from housing, the use of musical instruments in public which repeatedly disturb local residents and other users of public space.

Officers will work to ensure establishments open to the public comply with regulations. Special attention will be given to closing times, the control of terraces and gazebos, possible excesses in capacity and inconvenience caused by establishments. Administrative inspections may also be conducted if necessary. The corps will also be controlling offences and any inconvenience caused by tourist accommodation, with work to continue on preventing unauthorised parties.

Road safety

Another goal is to boost road safety and reduce the number of accident victims. Special attention will be given to correcting risky behaviour which may cause accidents and affect the safety and mobility of pedestrians. In this respect, there will be more breathalyser tests, drug-driving tests and speed checks. Similarly, more control is planned with regard to personal mobility vehicles for commercia use, particularly rickshaws.

Safe beaches

The City Police Beach Group will continue to operate, addressing any incidents occurring along the city’s coastline. The group will be operating out of the joint office used by the City Police and the Mossos d’Esquadra in Pg. Joan de Borbó, from the module at the Barceloneta beach and the module at the groyne at the Bogatell beach. The Beach Group is made up of 90 officers who operate on foot and on 32 vehicles (scooters, quads, bicycles, sand quads and semi-rigid motorboats).

Checks in forest areas

The woodland area of the Parc de Collserola will also have its preventive patrol operation. The territorial City Police units for Sarrià – Sant Gervasi, Horta-Guinardó and Nou Barris will be responsible for this task, each with their own resources. The work is conducted by officers with specific skills and knowledge (forest patrol teams), which use all-terrain vehicles. The city’s mounted police unit will also be involved.
