Culture has had to confront a devastating pandemic to stay on its feet, and it has done so better than we could ever have imagined, with festivals, exhibitions, activities and more. The last few months have seen organisations propose formats which are compatible with the current social and health measures, keeping people’s cultural spirit and interest alive. Barcelona’s contemporary art museum, the MACBA, was not going to get left behind.

Now the MACBA presents ‘For Families’, offering a chance for artistic exploration in bubble-group workshops. The sessions are designed for single families or bubble groups with children aged between 2 and 12. The 45-minute workshops are held at weekends and during the school holidays, with participants exploring various spaces at the museum and discovering different ways of understanding, learning and creating. Both activities cost 3 euros and take place in the Meier building.

‘House of the seas’

Conducted by the artist Xavier Manubens, this workshop consists of a sensory route around the Fina Miralles exhibition, with works acting as a point of reference for the creations by participants. The pieces produced in the workshops will remain on display for a period afterwards. The activity invites participants to explore their own body to discover how far it can reach, enabling them to transform it into a work of art.

‘Coses, cossos… acció!’

Marina Rubio runs this activity guiding you on a journey around the most curious spots in the museum. As you go around, you’ll see different elements such as water, which will make you ponder the role they have in everyday life. The workshop prompts reflection about things, the way they are formed, how we perceive them over time and finally how they transform.
