The Monastery of Pedralbes and the Office for Religious Affairs get ready for the ‘Fe(r) i dones’ meeting in October

The ‘Fe(r) i dones’ meeting is being held on 7 and 8 October this year and is organised by the Royal Monastery of Pedralbes and the City Council’s Office for Religious Affairs. The meetings are intended to give visibility and value to the role of women of different convictions and beliefs.

The meeting comes within the context of long-standing collaboration between the two organisations, which have worked together for years on topics relating to women and religion/spirituality. The OAR works to introduce people to the plurality of belief systems and spirituality in Barcelona, which make it a rich and diverse city. For its part, the Monastery of Pedralbes is a place where women have historically experienced spirituality as a central part of their existence and where related activities have long taken place.

The collaboration between the two started in 2019 with the activity “Women and religion: spirituality as a meeting point”. The event consisted of four sessions, behind closed doors, between 25 women from Barcelona and loyal to different religious traditions in the city. The concluding session was held in November the same year. The meetings led to two editions of the cycle “Female figures in religious traditions”, where women from different confessions presented outstanding women figures linked to their faith.

The “Fe(r) i dones” meetings are planned to be repeated every year, around the topics of women and religion/spirituality, but with each annual edition to focus on a specific theme. For this first edition, the meetings will centre on how texts, rituals and religious transmission in various traditions are understood and experienced from women’s perspectives.

The meeting seeks to attract people interested in women’s issues and feminism, as well as people interested in inter-religious dialogue and religious communities themselves. The meetings will invite leading women for believers from different religious traditions, at the same time fostering the participation of local religious communities. The idea is thus a dialogue with international speakers, and at the same time a participatory event with women from various religious communities in Barcelona. Finally, there will also be activities for a broader public, such as workshops and a concluding concert.

The Royal Monastery of Pedralbes is offering the meeting as an on-site event, with some of the activities able to be followed online through the monastery’s YouTube channel.

Keep an eye on the websites for the OAR and the monastery for information and the presentation of the programme.

See you there!
