Two field hospitals dismantled as Covid-19 hospital admissions drop

Two of the four field hospitals jointly created to tackle the health emergency have started being dismantled. The drop in Covid-19 cases has enabled the facilities at the CEM Guinardó (an overflow for the Hospital de Sant Pau) and the Claror Marítim (overflow for Hospital del Mar) to clear their patients. When the dismantling work concludes in a fortnight, the two buildings will be available as sports centres again for when health measures allow.

The medical materials used to condition the buildings as field hospitals will be stored so that they can be recovered and re-installed as quickly as possible should they be needed.

The field hospital at Vall d’Hebron is still operational and acts a multi-purpose day hospital for testing patients who need to be admitted to hospital, those with appointments or who need procedures involving the manipulation of airways or aerosol transmission risks. These tasks allow modules at the Hospital Universitari Vall d’Hebron to be freed up for outpatient visits.

The management committee for the field hospitals agreement, made up of the Government of Catalonia and Barcelona City Council, is studying the future of the fourth facility, housed in the INEFC.
