The library is designed for scholars and researchers into the area of the culture of Barcelona, but also in general for anyone who is interested in the city. It specialises in Barcelona’s archaeology, heritage and urban history from its origins to the present day.
The library possesses a collection of almost 10,000 monographic works and 200 specialist magazines, in addition to a large archive collection of photographs and documents.
Access and consultation room
The library has a reading room with four reading spaces available. The bibliographic collection is open to the general public and can be accessed, with prior appointment, during the library’s opening times.
Information and bibliographic consultation
The bibliographic information service provides information on the library, the Barcelona History Museum, its collection and its services, as well as offering help and advice on the search process. For other types of specific requests, the library will make its entire documentary collection available to users.
The library has black-and-white and colour photocopy machines available, and library users can use them to make copies of documents. The cost for the service is set by the City Council [see the Prices for ICUB cultural activities and services] and in accordance with Intellectual Property Law.
The library offers free Wi-Fi in the consultation room.
