Sónar+D is back

The creative technology congress associated with the famous advanced music festival is being held for the seventh time.

20,000 visitors, 5,000 professionals, 2,100 companies from all around the world and 150 activities. These figures sum up the expectations for participation in the seventh year of the Sónar+D Congress of Creative Technologies, which is taking place at the Feria de Barcelona in Montjuïc on the same days as the advanced music festival: 17 to 20 July. Sónar is an international-scale iconic electronic and experimental music festival and the figures for Sónar+D, achieved after just seven years, show that the congress is also a leading global event for the professional art, creativity and technology sector.

This year, Sónar+D is focusing mainly on training and its programme includes all manner of lectures, talks and workshops. So much so that the organisers of Sónar+D describe this year's event as a veritable summer school where you can gain knowledge about its main thematic areas: artificial intelligence, music technology, experience design, quantum computing and the internet of the future. However, the congress goes much further and includes many activities that bring together those involved in the creative and technological communities, setting up new initiatives and companies or presenting projects. One example of this is SonarHub, an exhibition designed for this purpose, in which the stages of design, creation and marketing of a project are displayed.

The future stars of Sónar+D this year notably include the inaugural talk by Robert del Naja, one of the founding members of the British trip hop band Massive Attack. Timony West, will take us into the world of spatial computing for augmented reality and virtual reality environments; Tega Brain and Sam Lavigne will talk about creative experimentation with machine learning, Kyle McDonald will tell us about immersive installations; Madeline Gannon will present interaction with machines in the area of robotics; and Richard Devine will speak about producing soundtracks for cinema, advertising and video games ... But there are many more voices to listen to: more than 200 people will share their experiences and knowledge!

A vast range of activities that goes even further in space and time this year with a sound event by the Colombian artist Lucrecia Dalt in the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion, the presentation of the latest work by Christian Marclay at the MACBA Chapel, and the sixth maker culture fair, Maker Faire Barcelona, which will take place in Nau Bostik in October.
