A lamp from the Torre Bellesguard

An immersion in the history and secrets of Bellesguard

There will be guided tours of what is considered to be one of Gaudí's most complex works every Saturday and Sunday.

The Casa Figueras or Torre Bellesguard is located at number 20, Bellesguard street, in Sarrià - Sant Gervasi. It is the work of the brilliant architect Antoni Gaudí and, like all his buildings, it is well worth a visit. We recommend that you sign up for the guided tours that take place every weekend, both Saturday and Sunday, and in three different languages, Catalan, Spanish and English. However, you also have the option to do the visit with an audio guide and, if you are a group, request a tailor-made tour.

During the tour, you will be able to discover all the nooks and crannies, both inside and outside, of this stately home, as well as some of its hidden secrets and history. Although the manor designed by Gaudí was built between 1900 and 1909, this place at the base of the Collserola mountain range has a long history behind it. In medieval times, in its place, there was a castle built for Martí I l'Humà, the last king of Aragon, which belonged to the Casal de Barcelona. Even then, it was called Bellesguard. When Gaudí took on the project, there was still the old wall and two half-ruined towers from the former castle, which he decided to integrate into the new house. In fact, Gaudí designed the complex inspired by the forms of medieval castles and Gothic architecture, although with a strong personal component. On the visit to the building, listed as an Asset of Cultural Interest since 1969, you will also find out who its owners were, and you will learn about the symbolism that, as you would expect from Gaudí, is hidden in every shape and piece.
