Experimental sounds, powerful drums, intricate polyrhythms and a haunting soundscape fraught with doom, featuring a mesmerising voice with acrobatic vocal techniques. Want to hear what the collaboration between Dis Fig (Felicia Chen) and Spooky J sounds like? La Mercè is welcoming a US-born artist who has always eschewed reductive labels. She made her start in New York’s experimental and DIY club scene, embracing pop, metal, rap and global dance styles in unpredictable, multi-layered DJ sets. In 2019 she released her debut album PURGE, combining vulnerable beauty and chaos at its most repulsive. It was followed the next year by In blue, Chen’s collaboration with British producer Kevin Martin (The Bug), which resulted in a sensual trip-hop and ambient dancehall album. Felicia Chen has also been working with multidisciplinary Chinese artist Tianzhuo Chen, a radical creator. She composed the music for his 2017 An atypical brain damage performance and has performed with him in a series of operatic live shows that create psychedelic experiences bringing together interpretive dance, carnival and ritual elements to create something completely new and unique.

In this live collaboration with Spooky J, you’ll see her use her voice and body to convey an emotional complexity that goes beyond language.
