Les abelles palmen però els pàjarus encara canten

Hip-hop/jazz/funk – Barcelona

It may seem that the world is falling apart, that artificial intelligence is everywhere, and that music has become a prepackaged consumer product, but Extraño Weys are staying true to their way of doing things, of creating sounds and taking a stand. Released last March, their new album Les abelles palmen però els pàjarus encara canten [The Bees Are Dying but the Birds Are Still Singing] is a statement of intent and, above all, a new journey into uncharted territory. With Viktor Pizza at the helm, the new material takes the concept of remix further than it has ever been before. But their concerts bring out the other side of the album: a Mediterranean hip-hop creation that comes to life thanks to a first-rate orchestra made up of renowned local jazz musicians. The show is rooted in rap but covers a wide range of musical styles, from jazz to bossa nova, from garage house to 1970s psychedelia and from groove to free improvisation.

Extraño Weys broke onto the scene in 2014 with their EP Variacions en fu-remoll de la 5a Simfonia inèdita de Roger Linn [Variations in Fu-sharp from the Unpublished Fifth Symphony of Roger Linn]. It was followed several years later, in 2021, by Rodrigo Laviña y su combo [Rodrigo Laviña and His Band], which won Best Urban Music Album at the 2022 Enderrock Awards. Now, at last, the long-awaited follow-up has arrived.
