Family mask workshop

The masks we are familiar with participate in festivals and celebrations, from giants and big-heads to the Carnival parade. Masks are very important in many places in Africa and Oceania. They are accompanied by music, dancing and songs and are costumed to cover, not reveal, the mask-wearer. They are used in agricultural ceremonies, to celebrate changes in the lives of people in the community, for fun or to make peace.

This is a participatory, creative activity where we will discover the museum’s masks and their powers and hold a mask-making workshop.
